Federally, the U.S. has led domestic and international leadership on climate-ocean change knowledge and response. On March 21, 2023  the U.S. government released President Biden’s Ocean Climate Action Plan which aims to:
Â
       1. Create a carbon-neutral future.
      2. Accelerate solutions that tap the power of natural coastal and ocean systems.
      3. Enhance community resilience to ocean change by developing ocean-based solutions          that help communities adapt and thrive.
Â
U.S. states also play a critical role, increasing climate ambition at domestic and international scales. Given their comparative ability to move quickly and innovate, U.S. states have been transforming climate-ocean policy by assessing regional risks, prioritizing information needs, incorporating coastal habitats into climate mitigation planning, and formulating local solutions that support coastal and community resilience.
Â
This working meeting will bring together U.S. states and federal practitioners around the themes of blue carbon habitats and climate resilient fisheries. We will explore shared priorities, collaboration opportunities and funding availability.
